Re:wild's mission is to protect and restore the wild to build a thriving Earth where all life flourishes.
Assignment Title: National Advisor on Collaborative Conservation (contract position)
Location: Mindoro and Manila, Philippines
Posting Date: 20 December 2024
Closing Date: 15 January 2025
Start Date: 1 February 2025 or ASAP
Re:wild protects and restores the wild. We have a singular and powerful focus: the wild as the most effective solution to the interconnected climate, biodiversity and human wellbeing crises. Founded by a group of renowned conservation scientists together with Leonardo DiCaprio, Re:wild is a force multiplier that brings together Indigenous peoples, local communities, influential leaders, non-governmental organizations, governments, companies and the public to protect and rewild at the scale and speed we need.
Re:wild works with the D´ABOVILLE Foundation and Demo Farm Inc. (DAF) and the Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc. (MBCFI) to conserve the critically endangered tamaraw (Bubalus mindorensis) in its last strongholds in Indigenous Taobuid and Alangan territories in Mindoro, Philippines. Our consortium is developing and upscaling Indigenous community co-management, sustainable land management and restoration approaches from Mounts Iglit-Baco Natural Park to the entire tamaraw range. We aim to support our Indigenous partners to maintain their chosen lifestyle, to harmonize Indigenous and State driven approaches to conservation governance and management, and to advance island-wide policy collaboration. This is underpinned by building lasting capacity to sustain and upscale our achievements. We have secured support from the UK Darwin Initiative for the period 2024 – 2029 to continue this work.
Re:wild seeks a Philippines-based individual (contract based) to help manage and oversee implementation of the UK Darwin grant, and at the same time to help coordinate collaborative conservation efforts in Mindoro. S/he works closely with the Project Manager, Project Administrator, Re:wild´s finance/operations staff, and our subrecipients to ensure that the terms and conditions of the grant agreement are met and properly documented, and that the project partners and external partners collaborate effectively. The National Advisor understands the legal framework, rules and regulations, and cultural context for project implementation in the Philippines, is willing to familiarize him/herself with the rules of the UK Darwin Initiative, and is a good organizer and skilled communicator to cooperate successfully with our partners and beneficiaries.
Services and deliverables:
The governance and management structures of the project, systems, workflows and internal controls as agreed among implementation partners are fully operational and functioning effectively by the end of March 2025. This includes facilitation of meetings of the Core Management Team as well as the Tamaraw Project Coordination Group and Project Advisory Group as necessary.
The collaborative activities foreseen for the period between January and March 2025 are implemented fully and effectively in close cooperation among all implementation partners and external partners, and in full compliance with Philippine law and the UK Darwin Initiative´s policy.
The first Annual Report of the project (covering September 2024 to March 2025) is finalized on time and accepted by the UK Darwin Initiative.
Liaison with national and regional (Mindoro) political partners (relevant offices and bureaus of DENR, NCIP, municipalities, representatives of Indigenous partners) to ensure their support. Representation of Re:wild and the consortium at relevant national events.
Collaborative work plans for all activities starting during the financial year 2025-2026 are prepared – based on an existing agreed template – by the end of March 2025 and fully in line with the project´s logical framework, Gantt chart and budget.
Robust arrangements are in place particularly for all those activities which are led by one local partner organization but with significant input by others, by the end of March 2025. The cross-organizational output teams are working effectively to manage delivery of all activities in an adaptive, effective way.
Non-Philippines based Re:wild project staff are aware of any significant developments in the project area.
