Aisling is an educator, conservationist, and sustainability professional. She specializes in partnership development, program design and implementation, and strategic planning for mission-driven organizations. For 13 years, she worked as a whitewater rafting guide, including seasons in Costa Rica, Argentina, and India. Rivers, international travel, and her childhood in the Sonoran Desert inspired her to pursue a master's in sustainability to deepen her understanding of human-environment relations, ecotourism, and community development. She has since served as a project manager for Adventure Scientists, a citizen science NGO, where she developed partnerships with the academic, nonprofit, business, government, and outdoor recreation sectors to address data-limited environmental and human health issues globally. In this role, she led the development of a national Wild and Scenic Rivers water quality survey that joined three federal agencies and community-based organizations to help protect thousands of river miles nationwide. Since then, she has helped grow a Costa Rica tourism company and a new sustainability consultancy. She has traveled to 11 countries, is fluent in Spanish, and is a published author, including an original Sustainability Science article highlighting the value of rivers, tourism, and local communities in offering transformative experiences to support the sustainability transition. She currently works as an academic associate at Arizona State University’s College of Global Futures and as an international consultant. She enjoys spending time in nature accessing the trails, rivers, and mountain snow with her husband and two kids around her home in Bozeman, Montana.
