Arturo Muñoz Saravia

    Education

Ph.D. candidate, Veterinary Science, Ghent University, Belgium.,Licenciate Biology, Universidad Mayor de San Simon, Bolivia.

Arturo has been working with Bolivian amphibians for more than 17 years and is the founder of the Bolivian Amphibian Unitiative. He is co-chair of the Amphibian Specialist Group-Bolivia. Arturo has a strong interest in amphibian conservation and at the moment is working on his Ph.D. at Ghent University on the ecology of the Titicaca Water Frog to try to understand the foraging strategies and nutrition of this Critically Endangered frog. At the same time he is coordinating and working with his team with additional endangered Bolivian amphibians. Arturo started working with amphibians as a hobby but since has been carrying out different biodiversity rapid assessments across all Bolivia, working on different projects mainly in collaboration with international organizations. In 2007 he created the Bolivian Amphibian Initiative, a project working with amphibian conservation in Bolivia, mainly focused in research, capacity building, education and the captive breeding of endangered Andean amphibians. This project intends to work not just on amphibian conservation but also to support and bring together young researchers and future conservationists that are interested in working in amphibian conservation. Now his focus is mainly in Andean amphibians due to the threats they face and because most of the endemic and endangered species are located in this area.
